Depression & Anxiety

Hi everyone,

Today’s share comes from Ted-Ed which is an amazing resource I love using in my lessons. Additionally, I’ve included a great video explanation from Mind-Set on Depression and Anxiety as portrayed in the 2015 Disney movie ‘Inside Out’. Depression is the leading cause of disability in the world; in the United States alone,

close to ten percent of adults struggle with the disease. But because it’s a mental illness, it can be a lot harder to understand than, say, high cholesterol.

A couple of my closest friends live with depression as well as some family members. I know I was one of the ones whose only advice was ‘well, just do some more exercise and try to feel better’ pretty much like Happiness in ‘Inside Out’. Not the best advice I’ve since learned but thankfully my friends were quite forgiving and we’re all good.

Therefore, in an effort to not only help you practice English,I’m doing my little bit to raise awareness, spread understanding and break the stigma depression and anxiety still have
